Considering reaching out to be a guest on the podcast? Here is some basic information on the process. Please reach out to me at moorea@balancingact.life with any additional questions, comments, or concerns!
We typically aim for each Balancing Act episode to be between 20 and 30 minutes long, however some episodes may fall outside of this range. If we plan to record a longer or shorter podcast episode, this will be discussed before recording.
We record both video and audio. As of now, we release audio first, and may use some video clips to promote the podcast on social media. In the future, we may release the video and audio of the entire episode on a platform like Youtube. We prioritize the well-being and comfort of our guests, so it is our policy to send all content to the guest for them to approve before releasing it on any platform.
The structure of the episode varies between episodes depending on the guest. We have podcasts with guests who share personal experiences, experts who share practical tips, and personal episodes with Moorea. The general structure is that we will introduce the guest, ask a few introductory questions, learn more about the work they have done, ask for any practical tips or resources they may want to offer to listeners, and then tell listeners where they can learn more about the guest or the guest's work.
Balancing Act aims to create a comfortable and transparent space for all podcast guests and listeners. If you are a guest who would feel more comfortable knowing all of the questions beforehand, we will accommodate you.
Here is a detailed and transparent list of how the podcast operates. This is the general process of becoming a guest, but it can vary.
Once we have connected initially, we will schedule a brief pre-meeting (15-30 minutes) where we will meet each other over a video call or the phone. In this pre-meeting call, we'll introduce ourselves and chat about what we would discuss on the podcast episode together. On the pre-meeting call I'll write down some potential topics for discussion, and I'll suggest questions that I may want to ask. If we both determine that you would be a good fit for the podcast, we'll schedule a time to record the podcast.
As the date for the podcast approaches, I will create a list of potential questions to ask in the episode. I generally prefer to have the podcast feel conversational - I won't just grill you with a long list of questions. The questions that I write are to structure the episode and to make sure that I always have something to ask. As the host, it is my job to carry out the conversation and to make us both look good. So it's a good idea for me to prepare an extensive list of questions even if we won't get to all of them.
After I have finished drafting my initial list of questions, I will send you a list of the topics I plan to cover and a brief overview of the questions I plan to ask. I will ask for your feedback on the questions (are these questions you feel comfortable answering? Are any of these questions more or less relevant than others? Are there any questions I should focus on? Any I should remove?) and I will revise the questions accordingly.
If you want me to send you the extensive list of questions, I'll do that as well. I will also always let you know if there is any information that would be helpful to have on hand, but please don't feel like you need to write a speech for each question - the podcast will feel more natural if you don't over prepare. If you are on the podcast, trust that you are there because you are extremely qualified to share your expertise. If you would like to meet again over the phone before recording, that is always an option.
A few days out from the podcast recording, I'll send you a link that we will use to meet virtually. As of now, I use a platform called Riverside FM. It's like Zoom, but better for podcasting.
We'll record the podcast together, which will take about 45 minutes. Please feel free to follow up with me after the recording if there is any additional information you would like me to add to the episode while editing it, or if there is anything you would like me to remove from the episode.
It may take me a few weeks or more to edit the episode depending on how many other episodes I need to edit and release. Before I release the episode, I will send it to you to approve. If there is anything you want me to change, I will do so. I may also use some of the video from the recording for social media promotions, but I will send any clips to you before I post them. I will link your website, book, or any information you want me to include in the episode's description.
